How to Stay Healthy and Active During the Winter

January 16, 2017 By admin

Attorney Nicholas Ellis loves being outdoors and staying active during the summer.

However, once the cold New England winter comes around, Attorney Nicholas Ellis finds himself less willing to go out and visit the tennis courts or put on his running shoes.

It is that time of the year again where eating becomes everyone’s favorite pastime and being fit has been placed on the side as something to be addressed during the “New Year, New Me” phase just around the corner. However, for those that would like to avoid the winter time weight gain, Attorney Nicholas Ellis has a few tips and tricks. The information is out there if you know where to look, and this task can be difficult. But with this information, you will set yourself up for success and not have to be as stressed when it comes time for spring and summer. There are many ways to stay healthy and active during these winter months. Attorney Nicholas Ellis shares some of his tips and tricks below:

Attorney Nicholas Ellis - Fitness

Joining a Gym

This particular item is a no-brainer when it comes to staying fit during any time frame of the year. With the opportunity to partake in multiple different classes that can range from spin class to Zumba the options are only limited by what the gym offers. You should look into the gyms in your area to see what they offer and go from there to determine if that is the best option for you at this time. Most people obtain a gym membership at the beginning of the year with their New Year’s Resolution motivation, but there is nothing stopping you from signing up in early November or December to get a head start.

Working out from Home

One way to avoid those crowds and the bad weather is by working out from home. Working out at home is accomplished in multiple different ways. One way is buying a workout at home regiment that is sold by various retailers depending on what it is you want to achieve or just doing bodyweight exercises that you choose to do focusing on your areas deemed needing improvement. Attorney Nicholas Ellis always tries to set aside at least 15 to 20 minutes a day for a good at home workout.

Outdoor Activities

This topic is for those that enjoy the outdoors like Attorney Nicholas Ellis. If you are a big winter person then going out and doing Winter sports and activities may be for you. These activities can include skiing, snowboarding, sledding, or participating in your local Polar Bear Plunge, which is when a bunch of people gathered together to go swimming in freezing temperature water and sometimes raise money for a good cause while doing it. While that last particular activity is for those who love the winter weather, it is obviously not for everyone. Another outdoor/indoor activity during this timeframe would just be walking or hiking. Bundle up in some warm layers and enjoy the beautiful, peaceful, and quiet scenery all around.

Watching Food Consumption

This last topic may be a challenge especially during the holiday season. However, it is important to be aware of what food you consume when not involved in those particular holidays. You can still eat till you drop on those special days, but watch what you eat when not at the holiday table.

Staying fit during the winter can have major impacts on the way the rest of the year will go. You are not a bear that can hibernate all winter long and wake up the same as you were last season. At the end of the day it is up to you, and it is crucial that you find a way to stay fit during these winter months for your overall health and happiness.
